2017 - John Barrett

Having turned 60 a few years earlier I once again was in possession of a new set of clubs, but there was a major contributing factor to the golf performance and that I had received a full upgrade of my ticker with a decoak and grind and cylinder replacement. Doctors had attributed my condition the “golfers lament syndrome” a disease associated with golfers who once a year become unbearable in the lead up to a major event, just ask Jason Day and Adam Scott about it when expectations become too high.

The weekend went something like this:

Friday, absolute crap round with a very low in the twenties score - but not last

Saturday, ordinary but a little better with a low score in the 30’s and now in the top 8

Saturday night, snuck home early, was fearful of those boys roping me into going to the Marlin only a few beers had and early to bed.

Sunday, Fitz was an overwhelming favourite with Harry lurking with a smile on his face.

After 9 holes there could only be 3 winners, Fitz, Harry or myself. Then with Fitz choking late once again it was was down the Harry and I. Having won my first jacket by beating his dad I felt it only proper that I started telling young Harry that the time had come, “you will win this easy H”, “you hit the ball longer every hole H” “you can’t possibly lose H”...............YES it worked, the harder he tried the worse he go, then when he just missed a birdie put on the last and I drained mine for a par from 15 feet across the 18th green, it was all over a one shot victory.

The NEW jacket was a beauty, fitted like a glove, note I took the smaller size in case some were wondering.
